The Griffon, Indian, Bearded and Egyptian vultures are Old World vultures. The Black, Turkey and King vultures are New World Vultures. There are, in total, 16 species of Old World vultures (in two genera) and seven species of New World vultures. The New World vultures are not closely related to the Old World vultures.
The condors (Andean and Californian) belong to the same family as the New World vultures.
The Lammergeier is more commonly known as the bearded vulture, and less commonly as the ossifrage. It's the only known animal whose diet is almost exclusively bone (70–90%) – hence the least common of these three names.
